St Mary's Retreat Day - Monday 20th June 2016

We had a super day on Monday with Dan and Emily from One Life Music who delivered our Retreat day. It was a wonderful celebration of life and faith and the children had a chance to sing, contemplate and pray. The title of the retreat was ‘Let His Glory Shine’, and during the day we considered how we should put Christ at the centre of all we do, and we were encouraged to let Christ’s glory shine in our school and in our lives. It is a day we will remember for a long time and we hope it is the start of a long term relationship with One Life Music.

We would also like to thank several governors who joined us on the day. If you would like to know more about One Life Music please click on the link which will take you to their websitehttp://www.onelifemusic.co.uk

World Book Day -  March 2016

Every other year pupils and staff celebrate World Book Day in great style. Pupils and staff dress up as their favourite book character. The children are encouraged to bring in their favourite book, to talk about their character and to exchange favourite stories.

A grand Assembly takes place in the Hall where all pupils and staff parade in their costumes! Vouchers are awarded to those pupils whose outfits are exceptional and overall winners from each class are judged by the staff. Great fun had by all!

Queen Elizabeth II - 90th Birthday - April 2016

We had a very exciting day on the 21st of April when we celebrated along with the country, the Queen’s 90th birthday. The Union flag was proudly flying and the children looked great all dressed in red, white and blue.

Mr Preece and Year 3 got the day off to a flying start with an excellent assembly, and our youngest children started preparing for their picnic by making sandwiches and cakes (and Mrs Chung brought in her own fantastic creation). Luckily the weather stayed clement and after lunch, Reception and year 1 went onto the field for more celebrations.

In the early evening the preparations for the Studley village celebrations began and the Governors of St Mary’s had kindly agreed the fireworks could be set up on the school field. On Friday morning there were a few tired eyes as many of our pupils had stayed up late celebrating with the locals but it was well worth it. Thanks to all the staff who put in so much effort to make the day a memorable one.

Richard III - Medieval Day - March 2015

Final Burial of Richard III

Pupils and staff at St. Mary's stepped back in time on Tuesday 24th March to mark the re-internment of King Richard III.

Everyone dressed up in medieval clothes for the day, including headteacher Mr Owen Finnegan. "This follows on from our Shakespeare Week and we did some work with the children on the Tudors and Plantagenets - trying to dispel some of the myths around them."

VE Day - 8th May 2015

Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the War ending in Europe in 1945.

St. Mary's pupils and staff wore Red, White & Blue to mark this wonderful celebration day. Donations were made and all proceeds sent to the Nepal Earthquake Disaster Appeal through Cafod.

"Thank you all for the support you gave for our V.E. day celebrations.

The school looked very colourful and patriotic, and in the afternoon we had a special V.E. day assembly, where we looked at video clips of the actual V.E. day 70 years ago; sang wartime songs and listened to Vera Lynn, Glenn Miller and the Andrew Sisters!

At the front of the school we also flew the Union Jack and the Nepalese flag side by side, and we must thank you for your very generous donations which will be sent immediately to support the disaster relief effort. [Sorry there is no Year 3 photo they were at Church when the photos were being taken]."
