St. Mary's Boys' Football Term 2017 - 2018

February 2018 - St. Mary's Catholic - v St Mary's CofE - 1

Well done to the boys’ football team who bounced back from their defeat to Coughton with a good quality convincing win over our local rivals.

In snowy conditions our boys started conservatively and whilst dominating possession, seemed reluctant to shoot. However, as the first half progressed the more confident they all became and finally a well struck drive put our boys one up at half time.

Into the second half the team received an early wake-up call as St Mary’s blue went on a quick counter attack, and for the first and only time, went over the top and levelled. This woke our boys up and finally they seemed to find their shooting boots, scoring in quick succession as the opposition tired.

The final score was a deserved reward for their efforts.

Stratford District Cup WINNERS 2017!

The boys had it all to do after losing their first game to a sharp and accomplished Bridgetown team. The boys went into the second game knowing that anything other than a win against the 2016 champions Shipston would mean an early exit from the competition. However, with renewed resolve our boys played some sharp and enterprising football and they fully deserved their 1:0 victory.

Studley/Alcester Area - Boys’ Football League  2016-2017

Second is a very creditable finish and with the Stratford District Cup, The Studley  School’s Cup and St Benedict’s Feeder Cup all won, this goes down as a vintage year for the boys’ football team. Well done boys!

Thanks to all the parents who helped with transportation throughout the year.

St. Marys Girls' Football Tean 2016-2017

ABS (Alcester, Bidford, Studley) Tournament - 2017

It was a very competitive competition; the girls played very well and in 6 games didn’t concede a goal. The problem was, however, we didn't score enough goals when we had the chance. Draws against Tamworth-in-Arden and Welford, when we were well on top in both matches, cost us the trophy.

Nevertheless, a very creditable 2nd out of 7 teams isn’t bad at all, well done to our girls’ team.  Thanks to everybody who came along to support and help with transportation.

With our year 4s on a trip, the House Captains had to find some of their squad from Year 3s, which was both unusual and exciting. The standard of play was very good and it was also great to have some of the girls’ football team playing too.

The winning team was St Patrick’s with 7 points, which breaks St David’s recent stranglehold on the cup.

In second was St David’s with 4 points and a goal difference of +2, followed closely by St George’s who also had 4 points but with a goal difference of -1.

Finally bringing up the rear this year were St Andrew’s with 1 point and a -8 goal difference.
