St. Mary's - Fairtrade School Status

Fair Achiever School - Awarded May 2016

Great news, we have now achieved our FAIR ACHIEVER SCHOOL status!

We are officially a Fairachiever School - the highest award that a school can get. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your hard work:- big breakfasts, lessons, assemblies, traidcraft stalls, displays, folders, newsletter articles, moral support etc. etc.

Helen Tyrrell

There are three stages to the award, FairAware, FairActive and FairAchiever (which is equivalent to our current Fairtrade Schools Award.) Throughout these three stages our school will learn about Fairtrade and get actively involved in the promotion and awareness of Fairtrade, therefore making a difference in the lives of marginalised farmers and workers.

Pupils from Year 4 will be visiting our local Studley Co-op to learn about its marketing of Fair Trade products and how consumers are urged to think about the food that they buy and where it comes from.

Our Fairtrade Steering Committee has now teamed up with Studley Parish Council. We will be following their progress in uniting Studley businesses to pledge their support into sell Fairtrade products. Our school committee has been auditing Studley supermakets and will be targeting other village outlets to progress their mission. More information soon!

The whole village of Studley is now working towards becoming a Fairtrade village and St Mary’s is taking a leading role!

Report by Aisling Quirke

“On Tuesday 22nd September Ella, Aisling and Mrs Owen went on a Fair Trade walk to shops in Studley.  The shops we went to were the Co-operative, Tesco Express and Aldi.  We had a little talk to some of the people who worked in the shops about Fair trade and wrote it down on a sheet.  We did an audit of the Fair Trade products on sale in the village and asked shopkeepers if they plan to stock more fair trade products in the future.”

2015 - 2016 St. Mary's Studley Fairtrade Progress

We are very proud to think that our own St Mary’s Fairtrade Project has now mushroomed’ into a whole village initiative. As you can see the pubs, restaurants, schools and churches are being asked to join the crusade. Please do what you can to support when you are buying in the village or taking your family out. Why not ask them where they sourcing their goods and ingredients from? Are they are supporting the Fairtrade drive?
